Team Gabby Gives

Gabrielle Cava was an infectiously joyful kid. Sadly, she physically lost her battle with cancer at the age of 16, but spiritually and emotionally she never let the cancer take her down. Gabby grew up going to Father/Daughter camp with her dad, and as she got older her favorite place in the world became the sleepaway camp she went to in Pennsylvania. At Camp Orchard Hill, this kid who was normally on her phone all day long would happily surrender it for weeks at a time to sing camp songs, rock out with a youth worship team, swim, zip line, eat junk food, and run around in the woods. Every week she would make new friends, many of whom she stayed very close with until she passed away. It was also in this setting where her Christian faith blossomed. She called the folks at camp “a great example of God’s people.” Her counselors were role models who were a ton of fun, yet these young women were serious about their faith and staying of trouble. She became more like them, and that was a wonderful thing. She found her people. She also listened to the speakers and remembered what they said, much of it pretty deep truth. We feel like much of her spiritual maturity took place at camp, because God meets kids there… while they are having fun.

We thought the best way to honor Gabby would be to help make sure good Christian camps like the ones Gabby went to remain viable, have great facilities to offer, and can offer discounts and scholarships to families who can’t afford it. To this end we are starting Team Gabby Gives to bless the camps that bless kids like Gabby, and in the hopes that more kids will have their lives changed for the better at camp. Since the time we started this charity over two years ago, we have been able to send dozens of kids to camp.
